What better than the David Fincher's classic "seven" to start with,starring the legend Morgan freeman ,Brad Pitt and Mr. serial Killer(a legend himself). A senior detective who is about to retire in 6 days teams up with a young and rusty detective to find the serial killer who is brutally torturing and killing people based on the 'seven deadly sins'. Seven is a masterpiece in all aspects right from casting, technicality, narration, explicit display of the murders and a terrific never seen before climax. Even after 25 years the movie still remains fresh. Tamil movie Anniyan was loosely based on this concept.

2.Silence of the lambs(1991):
Hands down the greatest serial killer movie ever made till date. Silence of the lambs is a cult classic and has served as reference movie for several others ever since. A young FBI Trainee(Jodie foster) has to seek help of a from the brilliant psychiatrist and the infamous serial killer Dr.Hannibal lector who is jailed to catch another serial killer who is ripping the skin from the female victims. Anthony Hopkins as the Dr.lector comes only for slightly over 15 minutes but forms an integral part of the movie and give life to the character which became a legend later on. The silence of the lamb clean sweeped the academy awards that year with 5 oscars in prime categories. A bible for the serial killer movie makers. G.O.A.T!

Based on a true story of the Zodiac killer who was terrorizing the san francisco bay area in 1960's and 70's killing more then dozens and taunting the police with cryptic letters. The movie follows the man hunt carried out by the investigators for a over a decade.Zodiac is a slow burn investigative thriller with a runtime of around 3 hours requiring a lot of patience and attention from the viewers(like detectives who handled the case) but once you settle in you would want more of it.
Another masterpiece from David Fincher who along with his team spent around 2 years doing research and preliminary work for the script.
